AMERICAN NINJA DOG

FUN TIMES!

American Ninja Dog is my solution to "ugh, another obedience class?"

It's definitely obedience, but way more entertaining for both ends of the leash.

PROOFING BEHAVIORS

American Ninja Dog is a proofing class disguised as a dog ninja competition. Students will have a blast pushing their dog's knowledge of  Sit, Down, and Stay to the limit!

A BIT OF EVERYTHING

Obedience, agility, tricks, maybe even some scent games. American Ninja Dog can be just about everything in one class.

OBSTACLES

CIRCLE SLIDER

(Sit with Distractions)

Two hula hoops are placed on the ground. Dog sits in a hula hoop at the start line. Handler moves a second hula hoop in front of the dog. Dog sits in the second hoop. Repeat until hoops and dog reach the finish line.

Bonus challenge: Handler must only use verbal cues. (Or only physical cues.)

QUAD STEPS

(Send to Mat/Place)

Four mats are placed on the ground. Handler sends dog to Mat 1. Dog downs on Mat 1. Handler steps next to dog, sends dog to Mat 2. Repeat until dog gets to Mat 4.

Bonus challenge: Handler must stay at Mat 1 the entire time.

WARPED WALL

(Drop on Recall)

An impressive trick that generally takes several sessions (and home practice!) to train. Dog stays on one side of the room. Handler walks to the other side and recalls dog. Halfway, handler cues the dog to Down.

Bonus challenge: Have a cone near the center of the room. Whichever dog Downs closest to the cone wins bonus points!

SALMON LADDER

(Stay with Distractions)

A PVC ladder is on the ground with a mat at one end. Dog sits or downs on the mat and must stay while handler "bounces" a bag of salmon treats from rung to rung.

Bonus challenge: Handler crinkles the bag while moving it and/or has the bag open so the smell is coming out!

UNSTABLE BRIDGE

(Recall Past Distractions)

Recall past a variety of distractions: stuffed toys, chew toys, balls, tug toys, food bowls, life-size stuffed dogs, people sitting on the ground, etc.

Bonus challenge: Distractions MOVE! Rolling tennis balls, people waving, etc.

LOG RUNNER

(Agility/Balance)

Dog walks across the agility dog walk obstacle. (Lower the height since this is not an agility class!)

Bonus challenge: Dog sits at one end of the dog walk. Handler walks to the other side and recalls the dog across the dog walk.

...more to come...
